Celebrate Air Force’s 70th birthday

Members of the community are invited to join Team Wright-Patt at the National Museum of the U.S. Air Force Sept. 8 to celebrate the Air Force’s 70th birthday. The event will be held in the museum’s fourth hangar from 6 to 11 p.m. and will include an evening of cocktails, food stations, live music and dancing. ‘Flight Crew’ members still needed for AF Marathon

The Air Force Marathon is set for Sept. 16, and vital to the race are thousands of members of the “Flight Crew,” who volunteer their time to help make race events a success. From setting up the course, working the two-day Sports & Wellness Expo (Sept. 14-15 at Wright State University’s Nutter Center), handing out bibs and shirts, to staffing hydration stations and providing entertainment for runners and participants, Flight Crew members are the engine that keeps the Air Force Marathon running. Wright-Patterson Club’s First Friday changes date in September

Due to an installation-wide Family Day Sept. 1, the Wright-Patterson Club has moved its First Friday social hour to Aug. 31 at 3:30 p.m. Participants can relax and start their holiday weekend off with “A Taste of the Orient” appetizer buffet in Wings Grille Lounge. Giant scale model aircraft to take to the skies

Visitors will see some of history’s well-known airframes at the National Museum of the U.S. Air Force over Labor Day weekend. Scale versions of those aircraft will fly over the museum, regaling spectators with daring aerobatics. The Giant Scale Radio-Controlled Model Aircraft Air Show is scheduled for Sept. 1-3. More than 100 pilots will entertain audiences as they perform skillful maneuvers with RC jets, warbirds and helicopters from all eras of aviation history. Hosted by the Dayton Ohio Giant Scalers in partnership with Horizon Hobby LLC, the air show will take place from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Sept. 1 and 2 and 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sept. 3. Free class to focus on federal resume writing

The Airman & Family Readiness Center, Bldg. 2 in Area A, will offer a Federal Resume Writing class on Aug. 30 from 1 to 3 p.m. The program focuses on the unique and sometimes confusing world of federal job applications and resumes. This class will provide the necessary tools to make your resume and application complete and competitive. Call the front desk at 937-257-3592 to register for any classes or workshops. Aero Carnival returning to Huffman Prairie Flying Field

The annual Aero Carnival is planned for Sept. 9 at Huffman Prairie Flying Field. This fun event is free to the public with free parking on the area surrounding the flying field. Directions: Interstate 70, Ohio 4 south to Ohio 444 north, west at Hebble Creek Road onto Wright-Patterson Air Force Base. The schedule 10:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Aircraft static displays are planned for various types of planes at which the public will get the chance to look closely. Aside from general activities and booths from local groups, films will be shown in the replica hangar. There will be parachute jumps, hay rides and sheep herding, presentations by Five Rivers MetroParks, rockets made on site with launches, and radio controlled flying. New art exhibit to celebrate AF’s 70th birthday

A special exhibit highlighting the 70th birthday of the U.S. Air Force will open Sept. 9 at the Air Force’s national museum. Seventy pieces of art, one representing a significant event for each year in Air Force history, will be displayed in the museum’s art gallery. The exhibit titled, “American Airmen: Breaking Barriers Since 1947 - Commemorating 70 Years of Air & Space Power through Art,” showcases the innovation, teamwork and proud heritage of the U.S. Air Force and highlights the unique contributions of its service members.

Remember those lost during 9/11 attacks

The Wright-Patterson Air Force Base community is encouraged to remember those lost in the terrorist attacks of 9/11 by participating in the fourth annual Run for the Fallen, scheduled for Sept. 11, beginning at 8 a.m. at the intersection of Loop and Spaatz roads on Area B. The 5K run and 2K walk events are free and open to all Wright-Patt military and civilian employees, as well as their families. AF Museum Theatre to show ‘Finding Dory’

The Air Force Museum Theatre’s Hollywood Film Series continues in 2017, and the next show is “Finding Dory” on Sept. 24 at 4 p.m. All films are shown on the six-story giant screen in the Air Force Museum Theatre, located inside the National Museum of the U.S. Air Force. Ticket prices for screenings remain $5 per person.
