Round1 Entertainment will open on the lower level of the Sears store at the Mall at Fairfield Commons in late 2019, offering dining, bowling, arcade games, billiards, karaoke, ping pong, darts and a play land for children.

Experience-based retail is becoming a major focus for malls as consumers want places where they can eat, shop and play all in one place.

Round1, similar to Dave and Buster’s, also offers all-inclusive parties starting at $20.99 for two hours. Food includes pizza, burgers, wings, salads, sides and drinks, including alcohol.

Round1 has roots back to 1980 in Japan under the name Sugino Kosan, the creator of the company. At that time, the entertainment facility had roller skating and arcade games. A few years later when a bowling alley was added, Round1 was born.

In 2010, the company expanded overseas with its first store in Industry, California, in 2010. Since then it has expanded in the United States to 39 locations across 21 states. The Mall at Fairfield Commons store will be its 40th. As of 2017, there were also 105 stores in Japan.

Along with store growth, the business has seen huge jumps in revenues. In 2014, Round1 USA executed $12.7 million in sales. Last year, the company’s revenue was $65.6. For 2018, the store projects sales worth $107 million, according to its website.

Sears is expected to close in early December. The upper floor of Sears will be sfurniture store The Room Place.
