Where is 'Earthquake Capital' Of Ohio?

Anna is the city experts consider Ohio's "earthquake capital", but the chances of a quake striking the Buckeye State are slim.

The Miami Valley sits on the Greenville Fault Line, and the Village of Anna in Shelby County is in the heart of it. The most powerful earthquake on record in Ohio hit Anna in March 1937, damaging building and destroying chimneys. Even though Ohio is not likely to be hit by an earthquake, the threat exists.

"They are less frequent here, but they do have a real seismic risk," University of Dayton Geology Professor Allen McGrew said.

Most of the buildings ranging from wood-frame homes to metal skyscrapers would hold up if an earthquake did hit the Miami Valley, McGrew said. Buildings made from stone, brick or cement could be damaged in a quake, though.
