GM Will Discontinue Pontiac Brand

There have been rumors, but now it is confirmed. General Motors is discontinuing its Pontiac line of cars.

The move comes as part of GM's cost-cutting efforts.

And, although there is no Pontiac plant here in the Dayton area, there are several dealerships that will be affected.

Jeff Reichard of Reichard Buick, Pontiac, GMC said, "They shouldn't take the Pontiac Brand away. It's been successful for us in the whole Miami Valley. I disagree with the move."

Reichard has been selling Pontiacs for 30 years, and he has managed to stay afloat during the sluggish econony.

"Pontiac represents 30 percent sales, some models, other brands 25 percent adjustment for us," said Reichard.

Pontiac is known as the sporty line of cars in the GM family. Tyelisha Lee said she loves her Pontiac, "l like them. I would buy them any day. I wouldn't trade it for the world."

GM said Pontiacs will still be made until the end of 2010. And for those owners worried about future maintenance? Reichard said his dealership will still be offering full service, even when the line officially goes away.
