A Wright State University presidential finalist has withdrawn his name from consideration to be the university’s next president.

Dennis Shields, chancellor of the University of Wisconsin-Platteville, withdrew his name this afternoon, according to an email sent to Wright State students, staff and faculty from trustee and presidential search chairman Doug Fecher.

“He thanked us for the consideration we gave him in his candidacy and praised Wright State as one of Ohio’s premier academic institutions,” Fecher wrote in the email. “Chancellor Shields was an impressive candidate. He has a wealth of experience from a variety of backgrounds including robust legal expertise, experience in higher education admissions and student affairs, and many enrollment successes at Wisconsin-Platteville.”

Fecher said in the email that the search process would continue with the two remaining finalists— Deborah Ford, chancellor of the University of Wisconsin-Parkside, and Cheryl Schrader, chancellor of Missouri University of Science and Technology.
