The crash happened around 1:30 p.m. at the 131 mile marker, near the Wilbur Wright Road exit, Indianapolis CBS affiliate WTTT-TV reported.
The crash involved a pickup truck and three cars when the pickup truck driver did not slow for traffic. The pickup slammed into a car occupied by a 29-year-old Anderson, Indiana, woman and her two young children, ages 3 and 1, who were both buckled into car seats.
The 3-year-old girl was pronounced dead at the scene. The 1-year-old was flown to Riley Hospital for Children and their mother was flown to Indiana University Health Methodist Hospital. Both are in critical condition, the television station reported.
The interstate was closed for several hours.
FIRST REPORT
The eastbound lanes on I-70 in Henry County, Ind. are closed after a fatal crash this afternoon.
Two medical helicopters were called around 1:20 p.m. to the scene near the New Lisbon exit, according to the Henry County Sheriff’s Office.
One person was killed. It’s unclear how many others were injured.
At 5 p.m., crews continued to work to clear the crash and reopen the interstate.
