BLACKBURN, JANET KAY

Janet Kay Blystone Blackburn went on to the Life Triumphant November 15, 2024, from complications from Gram Negative Septicemia. Born on December 9, 1940, as the youngest of her four siblings in Frankfort, IN. She went to Frankfort High School then attended Ball State University. She then became an airline stewardess and flew with Eastern Airlines until they went out of business, and she came back to Frankfort. Kay and Jeff met on a blind date, and after she returned from her stint at flying, they got engaged soon after and were married on June 8, 1963, in Frankfort, IN. After their wedding, Jeff attended Indiana University and Kay worked for Purdue University in downtown Indianapolis and financed Jeff's way through medical school. After graduation from medical school, Kay and Jeff moved to Springfield, Ohio where Jeff did an internship at Community Hospital for 16 months before moving to Austin, Texas. There Jeff served as a physician for the United States Air Force. They adopted their first child, Patrick Neil. Following their two-year service in Austin, during the Vietnam War, Kay and Jeff moved to Fairborn, Ohio where she focused on raising Patrick and later adopting Kara. After several years, they moved to Springfield again in 1974 and bought their lifetime home on Linmuth Drive. While living in Springfield, OH, she taught preschool and was in sales at Talbots for nearly 20 years. She was an active member of Grace Lutheran Church. If you knew Kay, you knew she kept a tidy house, dressed to perfection and could make an incredibly delicious meal. She was classy, feisty and had the best laugh. She was warm and welcoming and cared deeply for her people. She is survived by her children, Patrick Blackburn of Dallas, Texas, and Kara Eberhard of Findlay, Ohio, and husband, Jeffery Blackburn, as well as her eldest brother, Jim Blystone of Avon, Indiana. She and Jeff moved to Tucson, AZ in 2010 and enjoyed the wonderful weather and beautiful landscapes until her passing. Her memorial service will be at LITTETON & RUE FUNERAL HOME on Saturday, December 28th in Springfield, Ohio. The visitation will be from 1:00 to 2:30 with a service following officiated by Pastor Daniel Powell.
