Compton, James Roger "Jim"

James Roger Compton, age 79, of Middletown, Ohio passed away on Friday, December 6, 2024. He was born December 22, 1944, in Lorado, West Virginia, the son of Clyde Compton Sr. and Goldie (Ramsey) Compton.

Jim loved camping and fellowship with friends and family. His true passion in life was music, being a singer and song evangelist where he composed and published several songs. He began his musical career by organizing the first men's quartet at Man High School in West Virginia, calling the group the Mountaineers. He went on to sing with the Calvarymen, the Joyful Noise, the Victor's Quartet, and the Sounds of Grace with his daughter. Jim pastored several churches throughout his ministry, beginning in West Virginia and then moving to Ohio where he pastored the First Church of the Nazarene, Philadelphia Christian Center, Breiel Boulevard Christian Center, and Christ Covenant Church before retiring due to his health. He was active in the Hope House Homeless Shelter, served as Chaplain at Middletown Regional Hospital and retired from Breitenbach McCoy Leffler/Breitenbach Anderson Funeral Home after over 45 years of service. Jim was a lover of all animals, especially a parrot, named Kramer, who he enjoyed talking and singing with daily.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife, Clela Compton; brothers, Clyde Troy Compton, Jr., Kenneth Compton, Dennis Compton; sister, Barbara Burton; sons-in-law, Charles Profitt and Jerry Catron.

Jim is survived by his daughter, Sherry Profitt; granddaughter, Kayla (Cameron) Arnett and grandson, Kameron (Paige) Catron; step granddaughters, Kelly Profitt and Jennifer Profitt; great grandchildren, Gracelyn Arnett, Weston Catron, Isabella Perry; sister, Lois Browning; brother, Johnny Daniels and other loving family members and friends.

Visitation will be held from 11 am-12 pm, Friday, December 13, 2024 at Breitenbach Anderson Funeral Home, 517 South Sutphin Street, Middletown, OH 45044. Funeral Services will follow at 12 pm with Pastor Rick Witt officiating. Entombment will immediately follow at Woodside Cemetery.
