Frederick, Janice

Frederick, Janice

Janice Lee Frederick (Ferguson) age 84, of Hamilton, died Sunday, January 5, 2025 at the Woodlands of Hamilton. She was born in Morgan County, Kentucky, on November 27, 1940, where she spent her childhood. In the 1950s, she moved with her family to Ohio, where she attended Germantown schools. In 1959, she met and married David Frederick and they had a fun, full 63 years together before he passed away in 2023. Early in their marriage they lived in Washington D.C.; they returned to Ohio in the early 60s, residing in Chautauqua, Franklin, Oxford, and Hamilton.

Janice had a long career in customer service and retail; after retiring from Kmart, she went to work for Solid Rock Church, helping to manage the bookstore. She also volunteered many hours at the church, as well as at Community Christian Church in Trenton. Because of her gifts of service and hospitality, her favorite volunteer events usually involved providing food for those in need.

She was very creative, trying her hand at many crafts, excelling at cake decorating and floral design. These works were often on display at the family gatherings she loved to host; the perfect excuse to cook too much and deck every hall for whatever occasion.

Janice and David spent many summers traveling around the country by motorcycle, and they also enjoyed weekend getaways with friends. When they were home, they found there was plenty to do to keep them busy, and there is no doubt they are still busy, only now without the aches and pains.

In addition to her beloved David, Janice joins her mother and stepfather, Elsie and Wathen Carter, her sister Katherine Witham, brothers Donald Carter and Ronald Carter, and her grandson Michael Frederick. She leaves her daughter, Deanne (Rick) Devine, son, David Kelly (Peggy) Frederick, grandsons, Matthew Wilhelm and Mitchell Frederick and her sisters, Linda Banks and Brenda Hinds. She also leaves behind many friends, including the wonderful staff of the Woodlands of Hamilton. Friends may gather from 10:00 a.m. until 12:00 Noon at Weigel Funeral Home, 980 N. W. Washington Blvd., Hamilton, Ohio 45013 on Saturday, January 25, 2025. A memorial service will be held at noon with Rev. Linda Banks officiating. Please dress casually and instead of flowers, use the money to help those in need. If you would like to support a cause close to her heart, we suggest a contribution to St. Jude's Children's Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105. Also, DayCity Hospice, 7601 Paragon Rd., Suite 201 & 203, Dayton, Ohio 45459 was outstanding in their care for her and the family and are deserving of our support.
