HYPES, Lela Mae

Lela Mae Hypes passed away on June 4, 2021, at the age of 102. Lela was born on May 10, 1919, in Pleasant Hill, Tennessee, to Oliver and Magnolia Seegraves. She is preceded in death by her parents, four sisters and one brother. Her brothers, Homer Dale

Seegraves and wife, Mable, still live on the property where they grew up. Oliver Junior resides in Columbus, Indiana. Lela was married to Hershel

Walton Hypes for 67 years. Their first son passed away at birth in 1942. Hershel passed on February 16, 2009. Lela is survived by her loving children: Gayla Hypes, and Keith (Liz) Hypes; several nieces and nephews, great-nieces and nephews, and great-great-nieces and nephews. Lela is also survived by many precious friends. Lela and Hershel together owned and operated Mad River Florist for 35 years. After their retirement, Lela went to work for another flower shop for 10 more years. Her talents were numerous, and her love of the Cincinnati Reds was second to none. Whether she was quilting, cooking, baking, reading, gardening or canning, Lela was always into something. She was a loving wife, mother, sister, aunt and friend. A celebration of her life will be held on Wednesday, June 9, 2021, at 2:00 p.m. in the LITTLETON & RUE FUNERAL HOME. Visitation will be from 1-2:00 p.m. prior to the service.
