Monnett, John Adam
Age 80, of Washington Township, died at home on January 11, 2025. He was born on December 20, 1944, in Queens, New York; the son of the late John and Mae (Burton) Monnett. Along with his parents, he is preceded in death by sister, Claudia Fisher; father-in-law, Richard Jones; and stepson, Antwuan Walder. John is survived by his devoted wife, Anna (Jones) Monnett; children, John Paul (Erin), Kevin (Krystine), and Erin Monnett; grandchildren, Jaylen and Elijah Monnett, and Tiana Walder, Amira Gulledge, and their mother, Michelle Jones; mother-in-law, Patricia Jones; brothers-in-law, Joe Fisher, Richard (Anita), John (Susan), and Patrick (Dan Keefe) Jones; nieces and nephews, Ava (Paul Holden), Ian, and Claire Jones, Matthew and Timothy Keefe-Jones; and many dear friends. John moved to Kettering from NYC in Middle School, and was a proud 1962 Fairmont HS graduate. He earned his BBA in Accounting at the University of Cincinnati, became a CPA, and then earned his MBA at the University of Dayton. He began his career at Cooper's & Lybrand (now PwC), and then focused on health care as the Director of Accounting at Good Samaritan Hospital, The Vice President of Finance at Stouder Memorial Hospital, the CFO of Western Ohio Healthcare Corporation and the Senior Vice President and CFO of the DayMed Health Maintenance Plan. He was a Fellow of the Healthcare Financial Management Association and had served as a Board Member of the Southwest OH Chapter. He also was active in the Ohio Society of CPA's and Rotary International. In retirement, John used his expertise as a Tax Aide for AARP and to serve on the Finance Committee at St. Francis, where he was a 3rd degree member of the Knights of Columbus. An Army veteran, John was also a member of the VFW and American Legion. He enjoyed sports, and rooted for UD, unless they were playing UC! John loved God, his family, his Country and helping others. He was a good son, caring lovingly for his Dad for several years. He was known to be thrifty, but this just allowed him to be generous in so many ways to so many people and organizations. He was never known to say an unkind word about anyone nor to ignore any request for help if it was within his power to do so. John loved music, dancing, flowers, sports cars, museums, and travel. A lifelong runner, he also enjoyed bicycling and exercise. He had a great time "working out" at the Washington Township Rec Center with his dear friends Denny and Ray DeBrosse, where he was well known for his meticulous documentation of his progress. In his last chapter, John bore the indignities of Alzheimer's Disease for 14 years with grace and humor, and continued to be his very best version of husband, father, and Papa to the end. We are grateful to Ohio's Hospice for providing everything John needed to stay at home comfortably until his death. Special thanks to Pete, Amy, Kelli, Phoenicia, Derika and the numerous extended hours staff who were so helpful and kind. A visitation will be held on Sunday, January 19, 2025 from 3:00PM to 6:00PM at Routsong Funeral Home, 81 N. Main Street, CENTERVILLE, OH 45459. The Mass of Christian Burial will be on Monday, January 20, 2025 at 10:30AM at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church, 6245 Wilmington Pike, Dayton, OH 45459. Entombment and a luncheon will be held immediately after Mass at David's Cemetery, 4600 Mad River Rd, Dayton, OH 45429. Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be made at www.routsong.com.
