Age 97 of Oxford, Ohio,

(formerly of Warren, Michigan) passed away January 1, 2021. Jean was born October 28, 1923, in Detroit, Michigan, to Maude Anne (West) and Henry John Custer. On January 30, 1948, she married Harold Schindler. They were married 60 years and were a team until Harold died in 2008. They worked and raised their family in the Detroit area. Jean is survived by: her three sons, Gerald (Deborah) Schindler of Oxford, Ohio, Donald Schindler of Warren, Michigan, Randall (Kathy) Schindler of Eastaboga, Alabama; her grandchildren, Jason, Jessica, Matthew,

Brandon, Mia, Ryan, Stephanie; many great-grandchildren; nephews and nieces; special friends including Mary, Joe, Anne, Maria, Rory, Anita, Arlene (sister-in-law); and many more wonderful friends. Jean was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Harold, and her brother William Custer. Jean's life always centered on her family. She also enjoyed gardening, baking, dancing, painting, crocheting, ceramics, stained glass, sports, Opera, and cards. Jean was an avid

Detroit Red Wing Hockey fan never missing a televised game. Jean was active in PTA at her children's schools. She served as president of the local PTA for a term. Jean, along with her husband, started the Warren Youth Hockey league. She served as registrar for the league, then the area, and eventually as registrar for youth hockey in the state of Michigan. In 1985 she retired from a career as a bookkeeper but she always considered her main career to be devoted wife and homemaker. She was a member of the Morning Sun Presbyterian Church and the Oxford Seniors. A memorial service will be held in Michigan at a later date to be announced.
