Schweickart, Marilyn

Schweickart, Marilyn M.

Marilyn Schweickart, 87, passed away peacefully on August 22, 2024, surrounded by her loving family. Born on August 26, 1936, in Dayton, OH, to Wilmer and Josephine Monnin, Marilyn grew up with a spirit that touched everyone she met. She attended Patterson Co-op High School, where she formed lifelong friendships and was crowned prom queen, a testament to her vibrant personality and the affection others felt for her. Marilyn met Lou Schweickart, at the Catholic Young People's Club, and they married in 1959. Together, they created a home filled with love and laughter, raising four children who were always encouraged to pursue their dreams and stay true to themselves. In 1969, after a few local moves, the family settled on Blossom Park Drive in West Carrollton. Their home quickly became the heart of the neighborhood, often buzzing with activity as local children dropped by after school to share their days. Marilyn had a special way of making each child feel seen and valued, always taking a genuine interest in their stories. As her children grew and prepared to leave home, Marilyn was their steadfast supporter, instilling in them the importance of being each other's biggest cheerleaders. Even after they left for college and careers, Marilyn's kitchen remained a warm, welcoming place for new friends who found themselves embraced by her hospitality and love. In the years that followed, Marilyn was blessed with many grandchildren who became the light of her life. She was their biggest fan, attending dance recitals and sporting events with pride and joy. But she was perhaps best known for hosting epic sleepovers, where her grandchildren-and often their friends-enjoyed endless fun, laughter, love and sugar. Even as her grandchildren grew older and embarked on their own journeys, they always knew they could call Grandma for a heart-to-heart, where they'd receive not only her unconditional love and acceptance but also her honest, no-nonsense advice. Grandma didn't mince words, and her grandchildren cherished her for that. Marilyn is survived by her loving family, including:

• Her children: Joe (Sue) Schweickart of Cincinnati, OH; Jerry Schweickart of Farmersville, OH; Pat (Rachel Bourne) Schweickart of West Carrollton, OH; Mary (Curtis) Howbert of Lebanon, OH.

• Her former husband and lifelong friend, Lou Schweickart, who remained a close and cherished part of her life even after their marriage ended.

• Her grandchildren: Hunter, Trevor, Taylor, Abby, Hannah, Nick, Chris and Jeff and 11 great-grandchildren.

• Her brother: Jerry Monnin Sr. of Defiance, OH.

She is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, and friends who were like family to her. There will be a Celebration of Life at the Twin Oak shelter at Hills and Dales Park in Dayton, OH, on September 2, 2024, from 11 AM until 3 PM. We will serve lunch at noon with time after lunch to share any stories of how your life has been touched by Marilyn.
