TOOPS, James E. "Jim"
Of Eaton, Ohio, died January 2, 2021, at Kettering Medical Center following a two-week hospitalization for medical
issues complicated by COVID-19 related pneumonia. James was born April 25, 1940, in Richmond, Indiana. He was preceded in death by his parents, Forest and Dorothy Toops; brothers, Richard Toops and Donald Toops; a very special maternal
Uncle & Aunt, Hugh and Betty Rurode. He is survived by his brother, Thomas Toops; loving wife of 58 years, Anna Toops; son, Gary Toops; daughter, Linda Toops (Robert Goecke); grandsons, Christopher Toops and Justin (Robyn) Toops, along with their sister, Carrie (Chris) Kerns. Left behind to occupy
Jim's favorite recliner are his beloved dogs, Yujie and Remy. Jim grew up in the Edgemont neighborhood of Dayton, Ohio, and graduated from Wilbur Wright High School. He enjoyed reminiscing about his early days of working as a Milkman. He later became employed by General Motors (Inland Division Dept. 310) from where he retired. It was there where he forged lifelong friendships that endured up to his passing. A favorite pastime of Jim's was to recount the endless experiences & adventures he had with his GM buddies. These stories have kept friends & family entertained throughout the years and will continue to be cherished by those left behind. Jim was fortunate to have enjoyed a lengthy retirement
comprised of quality time spent with his family. He was a great husband, exceptional father, and good friend to many. Jim possessed a wonderful sense of humor and loved to laugh. An avid newspaper reader, he always appreciated a well-written obituary, particularly one with a touch of humor! No
visitation or funeral services will be held. This will afford Jim the luxury of not having to wear a suit and tie, which he loathed. Arrangements will be handled by Girton Schmidt & Boucher Gard Funeral Home in Eaton, Ohio. From there, Jim will take in a great view for the rest of eternity from atop Sugar Grove Cemetery in West Alexandria, Ohio. Online
