WELLS, Pearl "Willie"
Mrs. (Willie) Pearl Wells, passed away peacefully on Sunday, January 3, at Majestic Care, Fairfield, OH. She was born April 23, 1928, to Reverend
Willie Lee and Mattie Knight in Deastville, Alabama, fourth of 12 siblings. She married Dennis Thomas Wells on September, 1944, in Deatsville, AL. Out of this union 7 children were born.
After her husband was honorably discharged in 1946 from the US Navy, they relocated to Hamilton, OH. Eventually, she started her career as a cook and baker. She was fondly called "Willie" among her work peers. She was well known in Hamilton for her cooking and baking skills. She worked at Eaton Manor Supper Club, Fort Hamilton and Champion Paper Company. After retirement, she enjoyed managing her own restaurant.
Pearl was a long time member of Front Street Church of God (formerly Owens and Lane Street Church of God). She worked in many capacities - Sunday School teacher, deaconess, President of Missionary Society, etc. In her community she was a member of the Excelsior Club and the Golden Girls.
Willie was preceded in death by her parents; husband; son, Nathaniel Wells; grandson, Nicky Wells; great-granddaughter, Katelynn Dendy; great-great-grandson, Titan Johnson; and 10 siblings. She leaves to cherish her memory: four daughters, Tomasine Dendy, Bobbie J. (Gary) Chapman, Marcella Wells, all of Hamilton, and Berlin (Eddie) Zachary, of Indianapolis, IN; two sons, James T. Wells, Roslyn, PA, and Christopher (Junelle) Wells, Atlanta, GA; daughter in-law, Opal Wells, Miamisburg, OH; 18 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren and 7 great-great-grandchildren; two sisters, Alvonia Freeman, Montgomery, AL, and Mollie Johnson, Forest Park OH; sisters-in-laws, Phyllis Knight, Hamilton, OH, and Sandra Knight, Fairfield, OH; one special nephew, Bobby Knight and a host of nieces, nephews,cousins and friends.
Graveside services will be held Wednesday, June 13, at 12:30pm at the Crown Hill Cemetery, 11825 Pippin Rd., Cincinnati, OH 45231. Mark your calendar for an open-air Celebration of Life Service planned for May 15 at 11:00am at 111 South Front Street, Church of God, Hamilton, Ohio 45011.
