Young, Jack

Age 94, passed away Sunday, January 5th, 2025 at Hospice of Hamilton. Jack was born September 18, 1930 in Hamilton, Ohio to George S. and Ella (Gadd) Young. He graduated from Hamilton High School in 1948 and from Miami University in 1951. He started teaching and coaching (basketball, baseball, and other sports) at Union Schools (which is now Lakota), then went on to coach (mostly basketball) and teach at Hamilton Garfield High School, Belmont College, Princeton High School, Hamilton Taft High School, Soldiers and Sailors Orphanage in Xenia, Mason High School, New Miami High School, and Landmark Christian. Jack was a truant officer in the Fairfield City Schools for one year. Jack was a member of the Central YMCA of Hamilton for over 80 years. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Hamilton and served as Sunday School Superintendent, Sunday School teacher, Deacon, youth worker, and Minister of Senior Adults. He helped coach along with Thomas Farris the Butler County Special Olympics. Jack was a member of the Butler County Hall of Fame and the Hamilton City Schools Athletic Hall of Fame.

Jack is survived by his wife Judith (Jeremy) of 73 years, 5 children – David (Nao) of Nashville, Tennessee; Jill (Mike) O'Hara of Hamilton; Steve of Sealy, Texas; Krys Schramm of Hamilton; and Scott (Wendy) Young of Hamilton. He leaves behind 7 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren, and 1 great-great grandchild and lots of nieces and nephews and many other family members. He was preceded in death by his parents, his grandson, Andrew Schramm, and 2 brothers, John (Rose) Young and David (Dorothy) Young, and three sisters; Dottie Young, Tabitha (Frank) Leugers, and Georgiana (June) Marcum.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, January 11, 2025 with visitation from 10:00 a.m. to 1 p.m. and service will follow at 1:00 p.m. at the First Baptist Church of Hamilton, Ohio 1501 Pyramid Hill Blvd., Hamilton, Ohio, 45013 with Rev. Chuck Russell presiding. Burial will follow in Greenwood Cemetery.
