Gem City Shine: What not to bring to the block party

A local organizer of “Gem City Shine,” the free block party hosted by Dave Chappelle in Dayton’s Oregon District from 4 p.m. to 10 p.m. this Sunday, Aug. 25, said it is meant to reclaim the neighborhood following the mass shooting there on Aug. 4.

The street will be closed Sunday, Aug. 25 beginning at 6 a.m. and reopen at 10 a.m.

Here are a few things to keep in mind if you will be heading to the block party:

What is not allowed:

  • No bags, purses, backpacks and other large items. Wallets and wristlets no larger than 5"x8"x1" are allowed.
  • No chairs, umbrellas or weapons of any kind.
  • No cameras except approved, credentialed media.
  • No re-admission

Other things to know:

  • Children 6 and younger can attend with a ticket-holding parent. Children 7 and older will need their own ticket to attend.
  • Food and beer will be for sale inside the venue space.
  • Emergency services will be on hand to address any medial issues. Behavioral health specialists also will be available for any emotional or mental health needs that may arise. Look for the signs, said the Downtown Dayton Partnership press release.
