>> Century Bar moving to bigger space
But if things go as Joe Head and business partner Diane Spitzig plan, the move to the former Dayton Power and Light Building at 18 to 20 S. Jefferson St. from the bar's relatively cramped quarters at 10 S. Jefferson St. will be major in all other respects.
"We know how cool Dayton is; it is just time to let everybody else know," Head recently told us during a Facebook Live sneak preview tour. "We think our space will better represent who we are as a business today. We are just a stronger, bigger Century."
The building is expected to open at its new location this summer.
The Century Bar’s move is part of the renovation of the area dubbed the Fire Blocks District.
The first floor of the building will be the nationally recognized bar’s new home and house its historic back bar as well as a new bar for bourbon “nerds.”

Head recently told us the yet-to-be named second floor of the bar’s new building would hold a separate cocktail and wine lounge. Desserts would be served.
Previous plans for a speakeasy-style club have been scrapped.
He and Spitzig have signed a lease with Fire Blocks District developer Windsor Companies to move to the roughly 9,000-square-foot location that has set empty for decades.

The building’s third floor would be managed by the Century Bar as part of a partnership with Windsor and used for catered events and private parties. Plans call for a kitchen.
