Like its culture, Puerto Rico’s cuisine is a combination of many cultural influences – indigenous Taino, Spanish, British, Dutch, French, Italian, Chinese and United States.

Combos are good, especially the No. 1 at Antojitos Criollos Food Truck, which offers authentic Puerto Rican cuisine.

Why just have one thing, when you can have several? The food truck, which shows up for lunch regularly at Courthouse Square.

I had a hankering for Combo No. 1: your choice of fried pork chunk, chicken kebobs or chicken in garlic sauce, with two sides. I chose the chicken in garlic sauce and had Spanish rice and sweet plantains as my sides.

The portions are huge – definitely a value at $7. There was plenty enough that I could eat half for lunch and save the rest for another meal.

The chicken is quite tender and indeed garlicky; the rice, a bit spicy with black beans mixed in, and the sweet plantains are to die for. Really.

Antojitos Criollos participates in many of the local festivals, so be sure to look for their food truck. They also cater events, including business luncheons, birthday parties and banquets.
