While the Dayton Flyers won’t have any open scholarships in 2022 if everyone from the roster returns, recruiting for the class continues because in the age of the transfer portal, it’s rare for a team to keep the same roster two years in a row.

A 2022 recruit, Michael Sharavjamts, sat behind the bench Monday when Dayton played Cedarville University in an exhibition game at UD Arena.

Sharavjamts, a 6-foot-9 forward, is a native of Mongolia. His Instagram handle is “@MongolianMike.” He attends Andrews Osborne Academy in Willoughby, Ohio, and previously attended Prolific Prep (Calif.).

Dayton first contacted Sharavjamts in June 2020, and he announced Sept. 29 he received a scholarship offer from Dayton. He received offers from Rutgers in July and from Providence in October.

Sharavjamts played in the summer, along with Centerville’s Gabe Cupps and Rich Rolf, with Midwest Basketball Club. His dad, Sharavjamts Tserenjanhor, a 7-foot center nicknamed the Mongolian Shark, played for the Harlem Globetrotters after being discovered by then LSU coach Dale Brown at a basketball clinic in Mongolia.
