Aero Lanes closed its doors at the end of the 2010-11 season, but it wasn’t for lack of business. It was because of a new opportunity for Dave Flemming and his business partners.
“We saw a chance to open a larger, fully renovated center in a more central location,” Flemming said.
Flemming, now president of the newly formed Fairborn Entertainment Center, left behind the bowling center he operated for the past 25 years to open Bowl 10 Fairborn. The renovated 20-lane center operated for many years as Fairborn Recreation at 1425 N. Broad St. The building went up for sale through foreclosure in May 2010 and Flemming and his partners bought the building in February.
“The location will also bring Enon much more into play,” Flemming said.
Aero bowlers will find a familiar feel at Bowl 10 as some of the machines, kitchen equipment and furniture were moved to the new center. But the bowlers in the 12-plus leagues that will relocate will also find some new amenities like a larger restaurant and lounge, a full arcade, rooms for meetings and parties and Cosmic bowling. The new center is 17,000 square feet, 7,000 square feet larger than Aero.
“We’ve basically revamped every area of the building, including putting on a new front,” Flemming said. “It’s very exciting.”
All of the Aero employees will move to the new center, and Flemming hopes to add an additional four or five employees during peak season.
Bowl 10 Fairborn will also likely host both the Fairborn and Greenon high school teams this season. Flemming hopes to grow the already large youth program that started at Aero.
League meetings will get underway this week and, pending final inspections and approval, the center will be open for business within a week. In the meantime, Flemming welcomes any bowlers to stop in and see what is happening at Bowl 10.
And while Flemming spent the past 25 years at Aero, and even named the center, he isn’t looking back — only forward.
“This is a great opportunity and a great investment,” he said. “And it’s not just a bowling investment, it’s an investment in Fairborn.”
