Alter grad Thuney to make third straight Super Bowl appearance with Patriots

Alter High School grad Joe Thuney is three for three.

Three years in the NFL, three appearances in the Super Bowl.

Thuney will line up at left guard on Feb. 3 when the New England Patriots face the Los Angeles Rams in Super Bowl LIII at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta. The game will be broadcast on WHIO-TV Ch. 7.

Thuney has started 56 straight games — regular season and playoffs — at left guard since New England selected him out of North Carolina State in the third round of the 2017 NFL Draft.

Thuney and the Patriots beat the Falcons 34-28 in overtime in Super Bowl LI and lost to the Eagles 41-33 in Super Bowl LII.

Thuney was a member of two state championship football teams at Alter.
