Arizona scandal: Sean Miller not coaching Saturday; school loses Shaq son’s commitment

University of Arizona men’s basketball coach Sean Miller won’t coach Saturday’s game against Oregon after a report of an FBI wiretap reportedly caught Miller discussing a six-figure payment to then recruit Deandre Ayton when he was according to Land of 10.

Miller being pulled from Saturday’s game was the latest fallout from the report and from the recent NCAA scandal that linked coaches, agents and shoe companies in a pay-for-recruits scandal, which already cost former national champion coach Rick Pitino his job at Louisville and forced the school to vacate its 2013 NCAA championship and wins over four seasons.

The wiretap revealed talk of a $100,000 payment involving Miller and to Ayton who was a top recruit in the 2017 Arizona class and is now a freshman there.

Arizona Daily Star sports editor Ryan Finley reported Ayton was playing Saturday, and the school hadn’t given indictation if Miller, the brother of former University of Dayton men’s basketball coach Archie Miller, would be suspended or fired.

The Friday's report also cost Arizona top recruit Shareef O'Neal, the son of NBA great and basketball Hall of Famer Shaquille O'Neal. Shareef O'Neal announced he had re-opened his recruitment on Saturday afternoon on his personal Twitter account.
