July 6, 1938: Crosley Field was the site of the first ever All-Star Game in Cincinnati, and three Reds were in the starting lineup to help the National League score a 4-1 victory. Cincinnati catcher Ernie Lombardi and first baseman Frank McCormick combined for three hits with one RBI and one run scored, while Johnny Vander Meer started the game on the mound and picked up the win with three innings of one-hit ball. All eight NL position players played the entire game, and only Bill Lee and Mace Brown followed Vander Meer to the mound. Joe DiMaggio scored the lone run for the AL.
