Griffey on Hall of Fame ballot for first time in 2016

Former Cincinnati Reds outfielder Ken Griffey Jr. is one of 15 new candidates on the 2016 Hall of Fame Ballot, the Baseball Writers Association of America announced Monday. There are also 17 holdovers from the 2015 ballot.

Griffey hit 210 of his 630 career home runs during his nine seasons (2000-08) with the Reds. He ranks sixth in baseball history in home runs. He had 2,781 hits in a 22-year career.

Results of voting will be announced at 6 p.m. Jan. 6 on the MLB Network.
