Cincinnati Bengals head coach Marvin Lewis said there will be an open competition for the kicking job in 2017, and the team announced the first participant in that battle today with the signing of Jonathan Brown to a Reserves/Future contract.

Brown originally joined the Bengals in May as an undrafted college free agent, but he suffered a foot injury in spring workouts that landed him on Injured Reserve. He was released Aug. 30 after completing his rehab.

Brown played soccer on scholarship at Louisville and later walked on to the football team.

Randy Bullock, who replaced the struggling Mike Nugent in December, also could be a candidate for the job if the team elects to re-sign the unrestricted free agent.
