Butler grad wins first match at U.S. Junior Amateur golf championship

Vandalia Butler grad Austin Greaser rallied from 3-down to win his first match today in the 72nd United States Junior Amateur at Inverness Club in Toledo.

Greaser was 3-down to Connor McKinney of Scotland through eight holes, but won five of the last 10 holes to score a 2-up victory. Greaser won holes No. 9, 11 and 13 to knot the match before making birdie to win Nos. 17 and 18 to close out the match.

The Round of 32 begins Thursday morning.

FIRST REPORT

Vandalia Butler graduate Austin Greaser advanced to match play in the 72nd United States Junior Amateur at Inverness Club in Toledo.

Greaser shot rounds of 71-73 (2-over-par total) in stroke play to earn one of 64 spots in match play.

The North Carolina recruit faces Connor McKinney of Scotland today at 1:04 p.m.

Greaser finished third in the Division I state tournament last fall.
