Carroll High School lost a key member of its coaching fraternity when veteran boys soccer assistant Daryl Jones, 61, died last week.

A Dayton Public Schools retiree, Jones opted to remain with the Patriots as head coach Scott Molfenter’s main assistant rather than land a head coaching position elsewhere.

Carroll has won five boys state soccer championships, including four from 2008-12.

“When I first got here I did want to keep moving on,” Jones told the Dayton Daily News following the Patriots’ state title in 2010. “I landed at such a unique school … where we have good players, good coaches, great parents, great support. There’s no way I’d ever trade what I have at Carroll for money. It’s a great place to be.”
