Carroll, Minster No. 1 in debut of girls basketball state polls

Unbeaten Carroll and Minster were ranked No. 1 in the debut of the girls high school basketball state polls that were released by the Associated Press on Tuesday.

Carroll (12-0) received eight first-place votes – two less than No. 2 Toledo Rogers (8-2) – but held a 174-171 advantage in total points in the Division II poll.

Minster (13-0) had 19 first-place votes and was top-ranked in D-IV. The Wildcats are the defending D-IV state champions. Fort Loramie (11-1) was No. 2 in D-IV and Tri-Village (11-1) No. 5.

No. 5 Centerville (13-1) cracked the top 10 in D-I. The Elks’ only loss was to Bishop Noll Institute (Ind.) in a holiday tournament at Hammond, Ind.

Unbeaten Waynesville (10-0) received two first-place votes and was No. 3 in D-III. Versailles (9-3), the state runner-up in D-III last season, was No. 5.

Print and broadcast media throughout the state vote weekly and the polls are distributed by the Associated Press.
