On Twitter’ former A’s pitcher Dallas Braden, now a broadcaster, reacted to Murphy’s win.
“I couldn’t be more excited for the acknowledgment of the hard work Sean Murphy has put in & continues to put in,” Braden wrote. “As tough as they come, a man with a plan & it usually starts with putting everyone one of his pitchers & the handling & care of his whole staff long before himself.”
Murphy hit .216 with 17 home runs, the fifth most by a catcher in A’s history, and 59 RBIs.
Murphy, a third-round pick in the 2016 draft, made his big-league debut in September 2019. He hit .245 in 20 games that season. In 2020, he hit .233 with seven home runs, starting 39 games at catcher. He hit two home runs in the postseason in 2020.
