Ryan Peltier struck out the final batter of the game and then screamed in celebration as his Chaminade Julienne teammates rushed him on the pitcher’s mound Friday.

The Eagles beat Tallmadge 2-1 in a Division II state semifinal at Huntington Park and advanced to the state championship game for the second straight season. They avenged last season’s 4-0 loss to Tallmadge in the final.

Chaminade Julienne (23-5) will play Wapakoneta (24-1) in the state championship game at 7 p.m. Saturday. The Redskins beat Circleville 6-1 in the semifinals Friday.

Peltier pitched a complete-game two-hitter. He struck out four and walked four. He also drove in the first run of the game with a triple in the first inning. Andrew Simones, who had walked and stole second, scored on the hit.

“It feels awesome,” Peltier said. “I didn’t want to pitch against any other team, especially here in the final four.”

Designated hitter Jack Huffman recorded the game-winning RBI in the fourth inning. His single scored Nick Wissman.

Chaminade Julienne played an error-free game, while Tallmadge made four errors.

Simones went 2-for-3. Peltier went 2-for-4. A.J. Solmon and David Ernst also had singles.

Peltier started for Chaminade Julienne against Tallmadge in the championship game last season and gave up four earned runs on eight hits in six innings. It was Tallmadge’s second state championship. It also won the title in 2002.

Chaminade Julienne’s next opponent, Wapakoneta, seeks its first state championship. This is its second state appearance. It lost 3-2 to Columbus St. Francis DeSales in the 2012 state final.

Chaminade Julienne will try to win its second championship and first since 1970. It would become the first baseball team from Montgomery County with two state titles.
