Chaminade Julienne High School senior George Washington III listed the Dayton Flyers in his final five choices along with Louisville, Virginia, Michigan and Wake Forest on Tuesday.

Washington committed to Ohio State last year but reopened his recruitment on Sept. 5.

A 6-foot-2 guard, Washington ranks 77th in the class of 2023, according to Rivals.com. He moved to Dayton with his family this year when his dad, George Washington, joined Tamika Williams-Jeter’s staff as an assistant coach with the Dayton Flyers women’s basketball program.

Dayton was one of the many programs to reach out to Washington after he decommitted from Ohio State. He broke down each of his five final choices for Joe Tipton, of On3Sports.com, and said of Dayton, “Coach (Anthony) Grant is a great guy and a great coach. He’s proven himself. You can call them a mid-major but I feel like they’re one of the most talented teams in the country. They have a really great program. I feel what they can do is special.”

Dayton has not received a commitment from a member of the 2023 recruiting class. Jazz Gardner, a 7-foot center from California, put Dayton in his final six on Friday.

Washington isn’t the only member of his family going through the recruiting process. His brother Jackson, a junior at CJ, has received scholarship offers from Akron, Illinois State, Kent State and Miami this summer. The youngest brother, Jayden, is a freshman at CJ.
