Jonathan Powell, a sophomore guard at Chaminade Julienne, announced Saturday on Instagram he received a scholarship offer from the Dayton Flyers.

Powell, a 6-foot-3 forward, sat behind the Dayton bench during the 59-58 loss to UMass Lowell. He shared a photo on Instagram of himself with Dayton coaches Anthony Grant and Ricardo Greer inside the Donoher Center at UD Arena.

“I would like to thank Coach Grant/Coach Greer and the entire coaching staff for believing in me,” Powell wrote on Instagram.

Powell averaged a team-best 13.1 points per game as a freshman with the Eagles. He led the team with 20 points in a 51-34 loss to St. Francis DeSales in the state semifinals.

Powell is the first member of the 2024 class to receive a scholarship offer from Dayton. PrepHoops.com ranked Powell fourth among Ohio recruits in the 2024 class.

Zach Fleer, of 270Hoops.com, called Powell in March an “already polished offensive threat with a great handle and shot-making ability.”
