Cincinnati Reds announce roster for summer workouts

The Cincinnati Reds announced their summer workout roster on Sunday.

The list includes 57 players, meaning the Reds can still add three players. Teams can have as many as 60 players in their player pool for the season, and 30 of those will make up the initial Opening Day roster.

Major League Baseball teams had until 4 p.m. to release the names of the players who will report to training camp Wednesday as teams resume preparation for the 2020 season, which will start July 23 or July 24 for the Reds.

One player who didn’t make the list was right-handed pitching prospect Vladimir Gutierrez, who was one of minor leaguers from throughout baseball suspended Sunday for testing positive for a performance-enhancing drug. He was the Reds’ 15th-ranked prospect, according to MLB Pipeline.

These 35 players below will train at Great American Ball Park.

Pitchers: Trevor Bauer; Matt Bowman; Luis Castillo; Anthony DeSclafani; Amir Garrett; Sonny Gray; Raisel Iglesias; Nate Jones; Joel Kuhnel; Michael Lorenzen; Tyler Mahle; Wade Miley; Cody Reed; Sal Romano; Justin Shafer; Lucas Sims; Robert Stephenson; Pedro Strop; and Tyler Thornburg.

Catchers: Tucker Barnhart; and Curt Casali.

Catcher/infielder: Kyle Farmer.

Infielders: Alex Blandino; Matt Davidson; Freddy Galvis; Mike Moustakas; Eugenio Suárez; Josh VanMeter; and Joey Votto.

Outielders: Shogo Akiyama; Nick Castellanos; Phillip Ervin; Mark Payton; Nick Senzel; and Jesse Winker.

Outfielders: Aristides Aquino; Stuart Fairchild; Travis Jankowski; Boog Powell; and Scott Schebler.
