Gray, 29, was 11-9 with a 4.90 ERA last season in 23 starts. In 30 appearances, the right-hander struck out 123 and walked 57 in 130 1/3 innings.

Gray spent his first five plus seasons with the Oakland A’s. His best seasons came in 2014 and 2015 when he went 14-10, 14-7, respectively.

He was traded to the Yankees at the trade deadline in July, 2017.

Gray was drafted by the As in the first round (18th overall) in the 2011 draft from Vanderbilt University. New Reds pitching coach Derek Johnson served in that same role at Vanderbilt from 2002-12. He served as Gray’s pitching coach from 2009 to 2011.
