Since then, Wood has been playing in Italy. But this season was cut short, so he’s visiting his family in Detroit and expects to make a trip to WSU as well.
“DaShaun Wood was over there,” WSU coach Brad Brownell said after the 61-59 victory over Detroit. “I was thinking about subbing him in, and he’s on crutches.
“He would have found a way to score a basket. We would have scored a lot more than 61.”
Duggins at 1,010
Junior Vaughn Duggins needed only seven points to become the 28th Raider to hit that figure, and he knew about it because people kept mentioning it to him. He ended up with 17 points, jumping him just past Tim Walker’s 1,009.
Brown finds touch
Senior Todd Brown was having a tough time shooting recently, but seemed fine making five of his eight shots against Detroit, including three of four 3-pointers.
“Every game is going to be a different test,” Brown said. The ball just bounced our way today.”
Gardner out
Senior guard John David Gardner, who missed the first half of the season while rehabbing his surgically repaired hip, is missing most of the second half with a broken pinky on his left hand.
Gardner, who made his season debut against Sam Houston State on Dec. 28 with 12 points and four assists in 20 minutes of play, played 25 minutes in the next game, at Loyola of Chicago, scoring four points and dishing out two assists.
However, on Jan. 2 at Illinois-Chicago, Gardner was taken out of the game after playing only seven minutes when he took a charge and fell on his hand. He has played in only one of the four games since, just five minutes at Wisconsin-Green Bay on Jan. 14.
His status remains day-to-day.
Darling visits
Cole Darling, a 6-foot-7 recruit from nearby Holt, Mich., was at the game with his mom and others. He’ll be a freshman with next year’s Raiders.
