OXFORD — Miami University’s football team will venture into Big 12 and Big Ten territory in the early part of its 2011 schedule, which was announced Monday by the RedHawks and by the Mid-American Conference.

The RedHawks’ first season under head coach Don Treadwell also will feature six home games, including nonconference contests against Cincinnati and Army, and four mid-week games to be broadcast on ESPN2 or ESPNU.

Miami opens the season Sept. 3 at Missouri of the Big 12 Conference and two weeks later will return to action at Minnesota of the Big Ten.

“Our nonconference schedule will demand that we be at our best every single week,” Treadwell said. “All four teams are quality opponents.”

Last season Missouri played in the Insight Bowl (losing to Iowa 27-24) and Army played in the Armed Forces Bowl (beating SMU 16-14).

Miami, the winner of the GoDaddy.com Bowl and defending MAC champion, will play its home opener against conference rival Bowling Green on Sept. 24, the first of three straight games at Yager Stadium. UC comes to Oxford on Oct. 1, followed by Army on Oct. 8.

Miami’s two MAC crossover games are at Toledo on Oct. 22 and at home against Western Michigan on Wednesday, Nov. 16.

The RedHawks also play mid-week games on Thursday, Nov. 3 at home against Akron, Wednesday, Nov. 9 at Temple and Tuesday, Nov. 22 at Ohio.
