Jack shot 64.4% from 2-point range (67 of 104) and 57.1% from the free-throw line (20 of 35). His best games came against SUNY Canton (16 points on 7-of-9 shooting in 16 minutes) on Dec. 21, Bowling Green (15 points on 7-of-8 shooting in 22 minutes) on Jan. 17 and West Virginia (13 points on 5-of-6 shooting in 24 minutes) on Dec. 18.
Jack is from Port Alberni, British Columbia. His hometown is located on Vancouver Island. He attended Alberni District Secondary School before transferring Fort Erie International Academy in Ontario to finish high school.
Jack played in the All-Canadian BioSteel Basketball Game, Canada’s version of the McDonald’s All-American Game, in 2022 and scored eight points.
Jack visited Dayton on April 17, according to a report by the Portal Report, and previously visited Vanderbilt. Arkansas State, George Mason, Sut. Bonaventure, Grand Canyon, Oregon State, San Jose State, San Diego, Pittsburgh, Portland and Portland State also contacted Jack, according to a report by Andrew Slater.
Jack entered the transfer portal on April 6. He was one of eight Buffalo players in the portal. The school fired its head coach, Jim Whitesell, who was 70-49 in four seasons, on March 11.
When Jack signed with Buffalo in May of 2022, Whitesell said Jack is a player who “welcomes the physicality of the game” and “has a high motor.”
In June of 2022, Jack talked about his background with ProspectiveInsight.com.
“I come from a small town compared to most guys,” he said. “I’m from Vancouver Island. It’s just an island off Vancouver. ... Same group of friends growing up. I just enjoy being with family. ... I got (into basketball) because my mom played at BYU. She did I think maybe a year of basketball there before she switched to track, but she always thought that I should play basketball.”
Jack is the third transfer to commit to Dayton since the 2022-23 season ended and the fifth member of the 2023 recruiting class.
• Javon Bennett, a 5-11 guard, committed to Dayton on April 10 after one season at Merrimack.
• Enoch Cheeks, a 6-3 guard who played the last three seasons at Robert Morris University, committed to Dayton on March 30.
• Dayton also added an incoming freshman. Vasilije Erceg, a 6-foot-10 forward from Novi Sad, Serbia, committed to Dayton on March 24.
• Jaiun Simon, a 6-7 forward from Mableton, Ga., committed to Dayton on Oct. 28 and signed in November.
Dayton has lost four players this spring and six since last December. Two returning guards, Malachi Smith and Koby Brea, underwent surgeries this month.
Two other Dayton players have not publicly announced their intentions about whether to return to Dayton. Forward Toumani Camara played in the Portsmouth Invitational Tournament earlier this month but could still decide to return to college because he has one season of eligibility remaining.
Forward DaRon Holmes II has two seasons of eligibility. He’s expected to enter this name in the NBA Draft and explore his pro prospects. The deadline for declaring is 11:59 p.m. Sunday.
Dayton still has two to four scholarships open on the 2023-24 roster, depending on the decisions of Holmes and Camara. Here is how the roster looks if both leave:
Guards (5): Kobe Elvis; Brea; Smith; Cheeks; and Bennett.
Forwards (3): Zimi Nwokeji; Simon; and Erceg.
Center (1): Jack.
