Ohio State basketball has lost another verbal commitment for 2018 as Dane Goodwin has re-opened his recruitment according to multiple reports.

The son of Dayton Flyers Hall of Famer Damon Goodwin, Dane is a four-star guard prospect at Upper Arlington High School.

He scored 34 points for the Golden Bears in a 62-34 win over Garfield Heights at the Flyin' To The Hoop event in Kettering last season.

Zach Fleer of Columbus-based 270Hoops.com broke the decommitment story and called UD a potential suprise player for the senior-to-be.

Goodwin told this news outlet in January he had not received a scholarship offer from then-UD coach Archie Miller, who left to become head coach at Indiana in March. He was replaced by Anthony Grant, a temmate of the elder Goodwin.

“Growing up we spent a lot of time (at UD),” he said. “Obviously, with my dad going there it’s a special school. We play (basketball) all the time. We post up and go one-on-one. He’s a good mentor to me and helps out a lot with my game. He’s my role model.”

Fleer also reports Ohio State will remain in the mix while Villanova and Notre Dame have begun pursuit of Goodwin, who is the fourth-rated prospect in a loaded 2018 class in Ohio.

The highly regarded three-man class Thad Matta assembled at Ohio State has now completely disintegrated.

Versailles guard Justin Ahrens decommitted earlier this month after Matta was fired. The Tigers star received a UD offer the same day.

Darius Bazley, a wing player from Cincinnati Princeton, had previously decommitted as his recruiting profile began to rise.

The news of Goodwin's defection comes two days after new Ohio State head coach Chris Holtmann's program got a huge boost with the signing of Kyle Young, a four-star forward from Massillon Jackson who originally signed with Holtmann at Butler but was released from his scholarship.
