Dayton won its 12th championship and fourth in the last five years. The Flyers will make their 13th NCAA tournament appearance and first since 2016 during the weekend of Nov. 29. The NCAA selection show will be televised on ESPNU at 8:30 p.m. Nov. 25.

Dayton’s Lauren Bruns was named the most outstanding player of the tournament. Bruns, Kendyll Brown and Brooke Westbeld were named to the all-tournament team.
In the championship game, Bruns had 19 kills. Brown had seven blocks. Bridget Doherty had 26 assists. Margo Wolf had 21 digs.
The Flyers trailed 9-6 and 10-7 in the fifth set before rallying, ending the match with a 4-1 run after the set was tied 11-11. A kill by Westbeld, a redshirt sophomore from Fairmont High School, clinched the victory. A year earlier in the championship, Dayton led 13-12 in the fifth set by gave up the last three points.
Dayton was the No. 2 seed in the tournament. VCU was the host and top seed. Dayton lost 3-1 at home to VCU on Sept. 30 in the regular season and also lost 3-2 at VCU on Oct. 26. The Flyers reached the final by beating La Salle 3-1 on Saturday in Richmond.
