Dayton Flyers coach Anthony Grant provided an update Wednesday on the status of 6-foot-10 redshirt freshman Kostas Antetokounmpo, who suffered a knee injury July 10 in Greece.

Antetokounmpo underwent diagnostic testing last week.

“It was diagnosed as a bone bruise on his knee,” Grant said. “He’s doing treatment and rehab daily with our trainer. It probably will be mid to late September before we get him back on the court.”

Grant expects Antetokounmpo to be ready for the start of the season. Until he returns to practice, he’s going through a daily routine with trainer Mike Mulcahey.

A day after the injury, UD reported Antetokounmpo told them he had been diagnosed with a non-displaced tibia (lower leg bone) fracture after the game. UD said Antetokounmpo would get a second opinion in Athens, Greece, but that it wouldn't have further comment on the injury until he was examined in the United States.

A day after the initial reports of the injury, Jonathan Givony, of Draft Express, reported Antetokounmpo had suffered a hyper-extended knee, not a fracture, and would miss three to four weeks.

The injury prevented Antetokounmpo, the brother of Milwaukee Bucks star Giannis Antetokounmpo, from playing with Greece's national team in the FIBA U-20 championships.
