Dayton’s Jhery Matos drives to the basket against Butler in the first round of the Battle 4 Atlantis on Wednesday, Nov. 21, 2018, at Imperial Gym on Paradise Island, Bahamas.

Dayton Flyers guard Jhery Matos will not play Friday against No. 25 Mississippi State. He’s suffering from turf toe, which is a sprain of the big toe.

Dayton will play the 7 p.m. game at UD Arena with seven scholarship players. It’s the third time in seven games they’ve been without a player. Josh Cunningham missed the first two games with a wrist injury.

Dayton has three transfers sitting out the season and decided to redshirt freshman forward Frankie Policelli. It also did not use one of the 13 scholarships.

The Flyers (4-2) seek their first victory against a top-25 team at home since they beat Alabama, coached by Anthony Grant, in 2011. They last played a top-25 team at home in 2016 when Saint Mary’s visited UD Arena.
