The top two teams in each division in the first and second half of the season advance to the playoffs. West Michigan won the Eastern Division first half. The eight-team Midwest League playoffs are in September.
Scott Moss combined with relievers Aaron Fossas and Ryan Hendrix on a two-hitter as Dayton improved to 41-27. Moss allowed two hits while striking out 11 and walking none in 6.2 innings to improve to 9-2. The left-hander will pitch in the Midwest League All-Star Game on Tuesday.
Fossas pitched 1.1 perfect innings and Hendrix struck out the side in the ninth for his sixth save.
The Dragons broke a scoreless tie with two runs in the fourth. After the Tin Caps made it 2-1 in the fifth, the Dragons added two runs in the seventh on a Taylor Trammell sacrifice fly and a Tyler Stephenson double.
Brown finished 2-for-3 and Jose Siri had two doubles.
The teams meet again Saturday at 7:05 p.m.
