The “What Ifs” are too numerous too count. The list of real accomplishments is plenty long, however. Here’s a by-the-numbers rundown of the many feats.
0: Losses in regulation time
The Flyers lost two games, both in overtime: 90-84 to Kansas on Nov. 27 in the Maui Invitational championship; and 78-76 to Colorado on Dec. 21 in Chicago.
3: Dayton’s final ranking in the Associated Press poll
The Flyers climbed to that spot in the first poll of March. It was their highest ranking since the 1955-56 season when they ranked as high as No. 2. Dayton also finished third in the final NCAA Evaluation Tool ranking.

4: Margin by which UD won the A-10 title
Dayton finished four games ahead of second-place Richmond. It was the largest distance between first and second place since George Washington (16-0) won the league by five games in 2006.
14: Sellouts at UD Arena
Dayton set a UD Arena record. The previous record of eight sellouts was set last season and in 1969-70, the season the arena opened.
17: Home victories
This was Dayton’s fifth unbeaten record at home and third at UD Arena. It finished 18-0 at home in 2008-09 and 17-0 at home in 2014-15.
20: Consecutive victories
Dayton tied the 1951-52 team, which did not lose a game from mid-December until mid-March, with its last victory of the season.
29: Total victories
Dayton surpassed the 1951-52 team, which finished 28-5, with a 76-51 victory in its final game on Senior Night.
52.5: Field-goal percentage
Dayton set a school record with this number. The 1981-82 team owned the previous record of 50.9. This was the fourth team in school history to make more than half its shots.
59.7: Effective field-goal percentage
Dayton led the nation in this stat, which gives more weight to 3-pointers than 2s. According to KenPom.com, it’s the highest percentage in the nation since UCLA shot 59.8 in 2016-17.
62.3: 2-point field-goal percentage
Dayton led the nation in this category. It’s the nation’s highest percentage since Belmont shot 62.6 in 2015-16.
64.7: Obi Toppin’s career field-goal percentage
Toppin fell one made field goal short of Sean Finn’s school record. Toppin made 445 of 689 shots (64.58) in two seasons. Finn made 414 of 640 (64.68) from 2000-04.
66.7: Walk-ons’ shooting percentage
Camron Greer, Christian Wilson, Sean Loughran, Jared Becker and Drew Swerlein combined to shoot 6 of 9 from the field and score 17 points.
93.5: Winning percentage
Dayton broke the school record of 86.2, which had been held by three teams that finished 25-4 (1954-55, 1955-56 and 1957-58).
99: Ryan Mikesell’s career wins
In the four seasons he was on the court, he almost tied the 2017 senior class for most wins in school history. He would ahve done it if Dayton had won three games in the A-10 tournament.
100: Road winning percentage
Dayton played nine true road games, all in the A-10, and won them all. The previous school record for best road winning percentage was 78.6. It was shared by the 1954-55, 1955-56 and 1957-58 teams, which were all 11-3 on the road.
107: Toppin dunks this season
Toppin led the nation and set the school record for dunks in a season. Kansas center Udoka Azubuike finished second with 103 dunks.
190: Toppin’s career dunks
In two seasons, Toppin broke Chris Wright’s school record of 166.
470: Jalen Crutcher’s career assists
He heads to his senior season ranks ninth in school history.
621: Toppin’s points this season
He tied Roosevelt Chapman (1982-83) for the 10th-highest total in one season.
847: Mikesell’s career points total
The St. Henry grad ranks 70th in school history.
946: Trey Landers’ career points total
He ranks 58th in school history.
1,096: Toppin’s career points
He finished his college career ranked 39th in school history.
1,170: Crutcher’s career points
He heads to his senior season ranked 36th in school history.
13,364: Average attendance at UD Arena
Dayton set a school record with this number. The previous record of 13,018 was set in 2016-17.
