Matos leaves the program after two seasons. He will be able to play right away as a grad transfer.
“I’m looking for a place where I can be myself honestly,” Matos wrote in a text message to the Dayton Daily News. “I’m not just a defensive player, and I want to prove that to everybody.”
Matos, who’s from Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, played in six games in the 2018-19 season before suffering a season-ending foot injury during the final game of the Battle 4 Atlantis in the Bahamas. He appeared in 26 of 31 games last season, averaging 1.8 points in 8.7 minutes per game. For most of the season, he was one of the nine available scholarship players to see the court, and he played double-figure minutes only three times in 18 A-10 games.

With Obi Toppin entering his name in the NBA Draft and Matos leaving the program, Dayton has three scholarships open. That number would grow by one if Jalen Crutcher keeps his name in the draft.
Matos committed to Dayton in February 2018. He played that season at a junior college, Monroe College, in Bronx, N.Y. He played his first season of junior college basketball at Eastern Florida State.
