Dayton Flyers in final four for top-50 recruit

DaRon Holmes, a top-50 recruit in the class of 2021, listed the Dayton Flyers among his final four college choices Wednesday.

Arizona, California and Marquette are also in the running for Holmes, a 6-foot-8 forward. He received a scholarship offer from Dayton in June. He’s a four-star prospect who ranks 36th in the 2021 class, according to Rivals.com.

Holmes thanked Dayton Flyers head coach Anthony Grant and assistant coach Ricardo Greer for the opportunity when he announced the offer in June,.

Holmes attended Millennium High School in Goodyear, Ariz., his first three years. He announced in May he would transfer to Montverde Academy, which is located near Orlando, Fla., for his final year.

Holmes averaged 23.5 points, 10.5 rebounds, 3.8 blocks and 3.1 assists as a junior and was named the Gatorade Player of the Year in Arizona.

Dayton filled one scholarship in the 2021 class with the commitment of Malachi Smith in August. Assuming it doesn’t fill the one open scholarship in the 2020-21 season, it has four open for the 2021-22 season.
