The Dayton Flyers picked up a commitment Tuesday from Tyrone Baker, a transfer from the University of Georgia.

Baker, a 6-foot-11 forward, played in just three games as a freshman this past season for the Bulldogs, scoring two points. He broke his hand during a practice Jan. 18 and missed the rest of the season. He entered the transfer portal earlier this month.

A native of Fort Myers, Fla., Baker was a three-start recruit out of Hightower High School in Texas. In three combined seasons of high school basketball in Florida and Texas, Baker scored 1,090 points and totaled 735 rebounds (15.8 points per game, 10.7 rebounds per game). He shot 63.1 percent from the field.

Baker’s commitment leaves the Flyers with one available scholarship for the 2022-23 season.

Dayton lost Elijah Weaver and Moulaye Sissoko to the transfer portal in March. Sissoko committed to the University of North Texas on Monday.

It’s the second striaght offseason the Flyers have picked up a transfer from Georgia. Toumani Camara joined UD last offseason after two seasons with the Bulldogs.

The Bulldogs finished 6-26 in 2021-22 and replaced longtime coach Tom Crean with former Florida coach Mike White in March.
