The Dayton Flyers (21-2, 10-0) stayed at No. 6 for the second straight week in the Associated Press top-25 poll on Monday. There were no changes in the top nine.

This is the 11th straight week Dayton has been ranked. To put that in perspective, it was ranked for a total of nine weeks between the 2008-09 and 2018-19 seasons.

The only teams to beat Dayton are ranked in the top 25: No. 3 Kansas and No. 16 Colorado.

Dayton plays Rhode Island (18-5, 10-1), which is two spots out of the top 25, at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at UD Arena. The first Flyers lead Rhode Island by a half game in the Atlantic 10 Conference.

Last week, Dayton earned its highest ranking in the poll since the 1967-68 season. It started that season at No. 6 and stayed there until losing its second game of the season to Miami. That defeat dropped the Flyers out of the top 25, and they didn’t return until the following season.

This is the first Dayton team to climb this high on the strength of its accomplishments during the season since the 1955-56 team, which was ranked seventh in the first poll of the season and climbed as high as No. 2, which is the highest Dayton has ever been ranked.

Dayton entered the top 25 at No. 19 on Dec. 2, following its runner-up finish at the Maui Invitational, and then climbed to No. 14 on Dec. 9 and to No. 13 on Dec. 16.

The Flyers fell to No. 18 on Dec. 23 after a 78-76 overtime loss to Colorado at the United Center on Dec. 21. They dropped to No. 20 on Dec. 30 before climbing to No. 15 on Jan. 6, No. 13 on Jan. 13 and then to No. 7 for two weeks. It moved to No. 6 last week.
