Mustapha Amzil and Makira Cook, of the Dayton Flyers, swept the Atlantic 10 Conference Rookie of the Week awards Monday.

Amzil, a 6-foot-10 freshman forward from Finland, averaged 18.5 points in his first two games. He joined the men’s program on Dec. 19 and made his UD debut Dec. 30 three days after starting practice.

The Dayton men started 1-1 in A-10 play, losing 67-65 to La Salle on Wednesday and beating George Mason 74-65 on Saturday. The Flyers play at Fordham at 6 p.m. Tuesday.

Cook, a 5-6 guard from Hamilton, averaged 11 points in two games as the Dayton women started 2-0 in A-10 play.

The Flyers beat St. Bonaventure 56-47 on Friday and routed Duquesne 64-48 on Sunday. They play at George Mason at 6 p.m. Friday.
