Dayton Flyers in the mix for Western Michigan transfer

Transfer season is a long way from over, and the Dayton Flyers have continued their efforts to add to the 2020-21 roster. They have three scholarships open.

Here’s the latest:

•  Western Michigan transfer Brandon Johnson is expected to announce his decision by the end of the week. He’s choosing between Dayton, Cincinnati, Connecticut, Minnesota, New Mexico, South Alabama and Tulane.

A 6-8 forward from Chicago, Johnson averaged 15.4 points and 8.1 rebounds as a redshirt junior last season. He’s a grad transfer who can play right away.

• Dayton reached out to Tulsa transfer Jeriah Horne, according to a report Monday by Jon Rothstein. A 6-7 forward from Overland Park, Kan., Horne averaged 11.1 points and 5.2 rebounds as a redshirt junior. He played his freshman season at Nebraska, sat out a year and then played two at Tulsa.

Horne a grad transfer who can play right away. Colorado, Arkansas, Oklahoma State, Virginia Tech, Georgia and Ole Miss have also contacted Horne, according to Rothstein.

• Dayton has been among the teams to reach out to Colgate graduate transfer Rapolas Ivanauskas, according to Brian Snow. Ivanauskas is a 6-10 forward who averaged 13.1 points and 7.6 rebounds last season. He played his freshman season at Northwestern before transferring to Colgate. Maryland, Georgetown and Cincinnati have been among the other schools to contact him.

There have been several transfers Dayton has shown interest in who have picked other schools, including Illinois transfer Alan Griffin, who chose Syracuse, and Rider transfer Dimencio Vaughn, who picked Mississippi State. Virginia Tech transfer Landers Nolley, another player who received Dayton interest, did not include Dayton on his list of 11 schools.

In other recruiting news, Tony Sanders, a 2020 recruit who visited Dayton last season, committed to Notre Dame.
